Bioinspiration & Biomimetics

Learning from nature

NEW Bioinspiration & Biomimetics now ISI® listed
We are pleased to announce that Bioinspiration & Biomimetics has recently been accepted for indexing in ISI Web of Science. This important development means that research published in the journal will be even more visible to the scientific community, and that the journal is on the way to receiving its first Impact Factor.

Thank you to the Bioinspiration & Biomimetics Editorial Board, authors and referees who have all contributed to the development and success of the journal.

About Bioinspiration & Biomimetics

Scientists and engineers are increasingly turning to nature for inspiration. The solutions arrived at by natural selection are often a good starting point in the search for answers to scientific and technical problems. Equally, designing and building bioinspired devices or systems can tell us more about the original animal or plant model.

Bioinspiration & Biomimetics, the essential new journal from IOP, will publish research involving the study and distillation of principles and functions found in biological systems that have been developed through evolution, and application of this knowledge to produce novel and exciting basic technologies and new approaches to solving scientific problems. More information is available in the journal Scope and Editorial Board list.

Fifth International Conference on Bio-Acoustics

The Fifth International Conference on Bio-Acoustics will be held at Loughborough University, UK on 31 March to 2 April 2009. The purpose of this conference will be to review the present state of this rapidly evolving subject area, to report on new developments and to examine future trends. Equal emphasis will be given to papers dealing with underwater, land-based and airborne studies, covering work on the bio-acoustics of birds, bats, insects, cetaceans and terrestrial mammals. Bioinspiration & Biomimetics will publish selected papers from the conference.

5th Animal Sonar Symposium

The 5th Animal Sonar Symposium will be held in Kyoto, Japan on September 14-18th 2009. Any subject related to biosonar / bioacoustics research is welcomed, including sound production mechanisms, auditory systems and physiology, performance and cognition in biosonar, signal processing, sensing behavior, social communication, bio-mimetic sonar, passive acoustic methods, and new technologies.
